Jackson County's swim team defeated Waynesville 322-242 July 18 at Waynesville. The local swimmers won despite having just 28 participants to Waynesville's 65. Coach Pat Briggs said this will be the last time Jackson will compete at the Waynesville pool as Waynesville will be moving into a new facility this fall. He said the entire region will benefit greatly from the new facility as it will be the best in the Mountain Swim League with eight lanes for competition. "It was a good meet with several swimmers qualifying for all-stars," Briggs said. "The most outstanding swimmer of the evening was Anthony McDowell. His time dropped considerably and he looked great in the water. It just all came together for him."
