Hawk, Woody win awards, Carpenter's jersey retired

Smoky Mountain soccer star Eric Carpenter had his #6 jersey retired last week at the school's athletic banquet. Pictured are, from left: his father, Bob Carpenter; SM Coach Dolphus Brown; Carpenter; and his mother, Donna Carpenter.

Derrick Hawk and Abi Woody received the Lions Club Awards at the Smoky Mountain Athletic Banquet held April 25 at the Ramsey Center.

Another highlight of the banquet was when soccer star Eric Carpenter had his jersey retired.

The Lions Club Awards were presented by Tommy Stovall, president of the local club. They are given for citizenship and sportsmanship. All athletes vote on the awards.

Hawk has been an all-conference player in football and baseball and also played basketball. He was named state football player of the week for his performance against Brevard.

Woody has been all-conference in soccer and holds school season records for goals, points and assists. She also was a member of the conference championship basketball team.
