Rebecca Smith scored three goals leading Tuscola to a 4-0 victory over Smoky Mountain Monday at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.
The Lady Mountaineers moved into first place in the Western Athletic Conference at 4-0. SM, playing with only two substitutes available, fell from the unbeaten ranks at 7-1 and 3-1.
"We played hard and aggressive and had opportunities to score, but we didn't finish," Coach Chris Griffin said. "We didn't shut down their passing lanes. We were focused more on the ball instead of the whole field."
Smith scored the only goal of the first half at the 9:13 mark. She took a pass from Tiffany Allen and beat a defender. Griffin said keeper Lindsey Lewis came out as she should, but Smith made a good shot and there was nothing Lewis could do.
