Larisha Littlejohn scored 24 points helping the Lady Devils hand SM its first Western Athletic Conference loss of the season. Laura Parris added 13 points and Jayne Hall had 10 as Brevard defeated SM for the first time since 1991, a string of 20 straight games. Tara Green led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points. Nichole Jones followed with 15, and Elexis Smith had 11. "We showed a lot of fight and character in the second half and never gave up," Coach Cindi Simmons said. "We got off to a shaky start with a lot of turnovers and a lack of offensive efficiency." Brevard never trailed and the only tie was 2-2 on Smith's basket 50 seconds into the game. A rash of turnovers and deadly outside shooting by Brevard resulted in 15 unanswered points over the next four minutes. Parris completed the flurry with three consecutive three-pointers for a 17-2 lead with 3:21 on the clock. The Lady Devils led 21-8 at the quarter break. Eleven straight points, including four by Littlejohn, built the lead to 40-18 with 1:02 remaining in the half. The Lady Devils were up 40-22 at intermission. More on SMHS Women's Basketball . . . |
