Western Carolina’s volleyball team ended the regular season with losses to the top two teams in the Southern Conference.

The Lady Cats (17-12, 11-5) finished third in the league. They will open the conference tournament at 7 p.m. Friday against sixth-seeded Mercer at Wofford.

If WCU makes the semifinals, the match would be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against second-seeded East Tennessee or seventh-seeded UNC-Greensboro.

The championship match is set for 2 p.m. Sunday.

All matches are being played at Wofford’s Richardson Indoor Stadium.

Regular season champion Samford defeated Western 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 Friday in the Ramsey Center. Aleah Keaton led in kills with eight. Hannah Price handed out 23 assists and came up with 12 digs. Meagan Sanchez led in digs with 15. Merry Gebel and Abigail Veit added 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Lady Cats lost 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18 Nov. 13 at East Tennessee. Gebel (16 kills, 10 digs) and Veit (15 kills, 17 digs) both had double-doubles. Price finished with 43 assists. Sanchez recorded 35 digs, and Caroline Perret had 10.
