Western Carolina’s softball team had a tough weekend, going 0-5 in the Bulldog Classic hosted by Georgia.
The Lady Cats (2-7) lost 9-6 to Eastern Illinois on Friday. Hannah Cravens and Mia Davis both had three hits for the Lady Panthers, and Megan Burton added two.
Jade Montgomery pitched six innings for the win. She allowed three hits, a walk and no earned runs while striking out five.
Lindsey Perrillo had two of WCU’s three hits, including a two-run double in the second.
Boston College downed the Lady Cats 3-1 later Friday. Emme Martinez had two hits for the Lady Eagles.
Susannah Anderson was the winning pitcher with two scoreless innings of relief.
Savannah Rice pitched a complete game but took the loss.
Georgia defeated Western 7-2 Saturday. Sydney Kuma, Sara Mosley, Lacey Fincher, Jordan Doggett and C.J. Landrum all had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
Alley Cutting was the winning pitcher. In six innings she gave up four hits and struck out seven. She allowed no earned runs and no walks.
WCU’s Ashlyn Long had two hits.
Kinsey Liscio was the losing pitcher.
In Saturday’s second game, Eastern Illinois won 4-2. Montgomery pitched a four-hitter. She walked one and struck out three.
Cravens and Davis both had two hits for Eastern.
Rice took the loss.
Georgia’s Mary Avent (four innings) and Amanda Ablan (one inning) combined on a no-hitter in Sunday’s 8-0 win. It was called after four and a half innings due to the eight-run rule.
Fincher and Doggett both had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
Jayme Eilers was the losing pitcher.
Western’s only home games so far came in a doubleheader split with Winthrop on Feb. 25.
The Lady Cats won the opener 4-3. Huneycutt, Kayla Brewer and Addie Pate all had solo homers. Kylie Shay had two hits.
Eilers pitched a four-hitter for the win. She walked three and struck out seven.
Winthrop won the second game 9-6. Taylor Charlton had two hits for the Lady Eagles.
Madyson Watson pitched a complete game victory.
Erica Hayes, Bailey Huneycutt and Amber Parker all had two hits for Western. Parker hit a solo homer, and Brewer had a two-run shot.
Shay was the losing pitcher.
