Will Mize’s RBI single in the top of the 10th gave Georgia State a wild 10-9 non-conference victory over Western Carolina on Feb. 26 at Childress Field/Hennon Stadium.

Kyle Riesselmann went four of six for the Panthers. Elian Merejo and Josh Smith both had three hits, and Mize and Kalen Puckett had two apiece.

Joseph Brandon finished the game with a scoreless inning and two-thirds for the win.

Georgia State forced extra innings by tying the game 9-9 with single runs in the seventh and eighth. Riesselmann had an RBI double in the seventh, and Mize drove in a run with a ground out in the eighth.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first on Smith’s RBI single.

They made it 3-0 in the second. Will Goldberg and Cameron Jones drove in runs with a single and fielder’s choice, respectively.

The Catamounts cut the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the second on a bases-loaded walk to Immanuel Wilder and a wild pitch.

Smith’s RBI single put GSU up 4-2 in the third.

WCU scored three times in the bottom of the third to move in front 5-4. With the bases loaded, Will Prater and Kitt Capell walked and Wilder was hit by a pitch.

Andrew Bullock’s RBI single gave Western a 6-4 edge in the fourth.

Mize had an RBI single for the Panthers in the fifth narrowing the deficit to 6-5.

The Cats answered with Luke Robinson’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-5 margin.

Riesselmann hit a leadoff homer in the sixth, and Griffin Cheney had an RBI double as GSU pulled into a 7-7 tie.

WCU regained the lead at 9-7 in the bottom of the sixth on Prater’s RBI triple and an error.

Justice Bigbee and Daniel Walsh both had three hits for the Cats. Robinson and Prater added two apiece.

Reliever Zach Franklin (1-1) took the loss.

The teams combined to use 14 pitchers. They gave up a total of 28 hits and 19 walks and hit six batters.
