Western Carolina’s women finished seventh, and the men were eighth in the Southern Conference Cross Country Meet hosted by East Tennessee on Nov. 2 at Pine Oaks Golf Course.

WCU’s Lindsey Trotter earned second team all-conference honors by placing 14th in the 5K in 18:53.22. Completing the Lady Cats’ top five were:

Siena Gates, 33rd, 19:40.91; Shawnda Martin, 47th, 20:12.91; Jamie Blaylock, 52nd, 20:21.60; and Kayla Deaton, 53rd, 20:22.66.

Furman won the championship with 20 points, followed by Samford (86), UNC-Greensboro (91), ETSU (115), Wofford (139), UT-Chattanooga (158), WCU (184), Virginia Military (221), Mercer (224) and Citadel (247).

Wofford’s Hannah Steelman finished first among 80 runners in 17:02.087.

Furman took the next five positions.

Tyler Robakiewicz was the top finisher for the WCU men in the 8K as he was 38th in 27:38.60. Rounding out Western’s top five were:

Isaiah Hanna, 43rd, 27:49.42; Justin Tucker, 47th, 28:12.10; Fletcher Bost, 54th, 28:24.50; and Terry Young, 60th, 28:49.63.

Furman also took the men’s championship with four runners in the top five positions. Ryan Adams led the way for the Paladins as he won among 79 runners in 24:40.72.

Furman had 21 team points followed  by ETSU (56), Samford (92), VMI (106), UNC-G (127), UT-C (166), Mercer (182), WCU (224), Wofford (246) and Citadel (285).

WCU is scheduled to compete Friday in the Southeast Regional Championships in Earlysville, Virginia.
