Two football teams looking to avoid the Southern Conference will meet Saturday when Western Carolina travels to Citadel.

Kickoff time is 2 p.m. at Johnson Hagood Stadium. The game will be available online on ESPN3.

The Bulldogs (2-4, 0-2) have league losses to Samford (61-55 in four overtimes) and Virginia Military (34-21).

Citadel owns a 27-24 overtime win over Georgia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Catamounts (1-4, 0-2) have conference losses to Mercer (49-27) and UT-Chattanooga (60-36). They lost 24-21 to Gardner-Webb in a non-conference game last Saturday.

East Tennessee is 0-3 in the league and in last place, a half game behind WCU and Citadel.

Quarterback Brandon Rainey is back to run the triple option offense for Coach Brent Thompson’s team. Rainey is averaging 69.2 yards rushing and 110.4 yards passing. He leads the league in scoring at 13.2 points per game on 11 touchdowns.

Raleigh Webb is his top receiver.

Citadel leads the series 25-17-1 after a 38-24 win last year. The Cats let a 14-point halftime lead get away in that game.
