Campbell led the entire game and defeated Western Carolina 53-40 in non-conference women’s basketball action Dec. 6 at Gore Arena in Buies Creek.

Taya Bolden scored 16 points for the Lady Camels, and Shy Tuelle had 11.

WCU had no one score in double figures. Nadia Marshall and Vanessa Oduah both netted nine points.

Tuelle opened the scoring with a pair of three-pointers, and the Lady Cats never caught up.

The lead reached 13-4 on Faith Price’s three-pointer with 3:02 to play in the first quarter, which ended with Campbell on top 15-9.

The Lady Camels reeled off 11 straight points, including eight by Bolden, for a 26-9 advantage with 5:53 to play in the half.

They led 28-13 at halftime.

The largest lead was 21-36 on Price’s three-pointer with 5:19 remaining in the third period.

Western scored eight unanswered points cutting the gap to 36-23 with 1:53 on the clock after three-pointers by Oduah and Madison Pack.

Campbell was up 39-23 entering the fourth quarter, and the Lady Cats came no loser than the final margin.

WCU had a better field goal percentage at 39 than the Lady Camels’ 36.

Bolden’s 16 rebounds helped Campbell control the boards 35-27. Oduah, Joi Reid and Tembre Moates all had five for the Lady Cats.

Western committed 23 turnovers, and the Lady Camels had 17.

Completing the WCU scoring were Pack and Jacey Justice both with five, Andrea Martin-Ruiz with four, and Reid, Zanoria Cruz, Endia Holliday and Audrey Meyers all with two.
