Radford swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Western Carolina on March 11 at the Catamount Softball Complex.

The Lady Highlanders took the opener 7-6 as Riley Oakes, Madison Canady and Autumn Slemaker all had two hits.

Jessie Marvin pitched six and two-thirds innings for the win.

Destiny Freeman’s two-run double and Sofia Tapia’s sacrifice fly put Radford up 3-0 in the first.

Slemaker’s solo homer in the second and Oakes’ RBI single in the fourth made it 5-0.

The Lady Cats (3-12) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on Erica Hayes’ solo homer.

Canady countered with a solo homer for Radford and a 6-1 lead in the fifth.

An RBI single by Kailey McNeil and Hayes’ run-scoring grounder brought Western within 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth.

An error allowed a run to score in the sixth as WCU cut the gap to 6-4.

Canady had an RBI single for a 7-4 lead in the seventh.

That allowed the Lady Highlanders to withstand Hayes’ sacrifice fly and Anna-Paige Pelfrey’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

McNeil, Addie Pate and Myra Twitty all had two hits for the Lady Cats.

Starter -Savannah Rice took the loss.

Canady’s solo homer in the seventh gave Radford a 4-3 win in the nightcap.

Freeman tied it 3-3 with a two-run homer in the sixth.

Hunter Mundy had two hits for the Lady Highlanders.

Marvin retired all eight batters she faced and was the winner in relief.

Western took a 2-0 lead on solo homers by Bailey Huneycutt in the first and Hayes in the second.

Oakes had an RBI single in the fourth narrowing the deficit to 2-1.

Ashlyn Long’s RBI single gave WCU a 3-1 lead in the fifth.

Jayme Eilers pitched a complete game and took the loss.
