Western Carolina defeated Davidson and lost to UNC-Charlotte in a pair of recent road non-conference soccer games.

The Lady Cats (3-2) downed Davidson 1-0 last Thursday. Julia Winter scored the game’s only goal with 6:17 to play off an assist from Reily Nelson. Winter shot to the right post after a missed clearance by a defender.

WCU had an 11-7 edge in shots. Western’s Melody Mezzina had two saves. Davidson’s Sarah L’Hommedieu made five.

UNC-C breezed to a 5-0 win Thursday. Megan Greene scored three goals for the Lady 49ers, and Julia Grainda had two goals and two assists.

Grainda scored the first goal at the 6:51 mark with an assist from Jamie Fankhauser.

Greene scored twice giving UNC-C a 3-0 halftime lead. Grainda and Brianna Morris assisted at 19:04, and Grainda had the assist at 38:06.

Green’s unassisted goal at the 51:39 mark made it 4-0.

Grainda had the final goal at 87:49 with an assist by Riley Orr.

The Lady 49ers had 22 assists to WCU’s seven. Natalie Icen made five saves for the Lady Cats, and Ashlee Owens had four. None of Western’s shots were on goal.
