Western Carolina softball players swept the first Southern Conference weekly awards of the season as junior Bailey Huneycutt was named Player of the Week and sophomore Jayme Eilers was chosen Pitcher of the Week.

Shortstop Huneycutt started the season by going four of 10 at the plate, with three RBIs, two runs scored and a home run as Western was 2-2 at the Stinger Classic hosted by Alabama State. Huneycutt had a two-run homer in WCU’s 7-0 win over Alabama State on Feb. 12. The next day, she had an RBI single, putting her team up 2-0 en route to a 4-1 win over North Alabama. Later that afternoon, she doubled in a 2-1 setback to Tennessee Tech. She concluded the event with a hit, a walk and a run scored in a 9-2 loss to Tech a day later.

Eilers pitched a complete game shutout in the opener against Alabama State. She allowed five hits and struck out seven in the 7-0 win. She had another complete game the next day in the 2-1 loss to Tennessee Tech. She allowed six hits and struck out six. She finished the week with a 1.38 ERA.
