Storm Murphy scored 28 points Saturday, and Wofford kept Western Carolina winless in Southern Conference men’s basketball action with a 91-78 win at Wofford.

Tray Hollowell added 18 points for the Terriers, and Morgan Safford had 15.

Matt Halvorsen paced the Catamounts (7-7, 0-5) with 19 points. Also in double figures were Cory Hightower with 15, Marcus Thomas with 14 and Xavier Cork with 13.

WCU shot 51.7 percent from the floor, but Wofford was even better at 60.4 percent.

The Terriers led 12-5 on B.J. Mack’s follow shot with 16:32 left in the first half.

Western went in front 25-24 on Halvorsen’s three-pointer at the 8:27 mark, the first of six lead changes in the half.

Mack’s three-pointer gave Wofford a 31-29 edge with 6:14 on the clock.

The lead reached 45-38 on three Safford foul shots with 49 seconds to go, and it was 45-42 at halftime.

Murphy gave the Terriers a 60-51 advantage with 14:04 to go in the game.

Cork had four points in a 9-2 run cutting the gap to 62-60 with 11:54 on the clock.

Wofford responded with a 9-2 spurt, including seven by Murphy, to lead 73-64 at the 8:04 mark.

Murphy’s basket with 1:35 remaining resulted in the largest lead, 89-73.

Completing the WCU scoring were Mason Faulkner with seven, Daniel Ransom with six and Tyler Harris with four.

Saturday’s home game with Samford has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues in the Bulldog program.
