Western Carolina’s women were eighth among 26 teams, and the men were ninth out of 23 teams in the Asics/Alexander Invitational cross country meet held Oct. 2 in Fairburn, Georgia.
Kate Mattison led the Lady Cats as she was fifth with a personal-best 5K time of 18:08.79. Completing WCU’s top five were:
Sydney Runyan, 42nd, 19:28.44; Alesea Caldwell, 53rd, 19:37.51; Sarah Klemm, 71st, 19:51.62; and Isabelle Broman-Fulks, 102nd, 20:23.22. All of those times were personal bests.
Justin Hayes topped the Catamount men by placing sixth with an 8K personal-best time of 25:35.25. Rounding out Western’s top five were:
Will Mitchell, 50th, 26:34.39; Drew Zink, 52nd, 26:35.89; Jordan McHugh, 67th, 27:08.73; and Jalen Elwell, 68th, 27:08.82. The times by McHugh and Elwell were personal bests.
The Samford women and Augusta men won the meet.
