Alondes Williams scored 32 points Friday leading Wake Forest to an 87-75 non-conference men’s basketball victory over Western Carolina before 4,359 fans at Joel Coliseum.
Daivien Williamson added 24 points for the Demon Deacons, while making four of six three-pointers, and Cameron Hildreth had 13.
Travion McCray paced the Catamounts with 21 points. Tyler Harris and Marvin Price netted 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Wake led by just two points at halftime but steadily built the margin during the first 10 minutes of the second half. The lead reached 69-54 at the 10:04 mark, and the Deacons coasted from there as WCU never came closer than eight.
The first half produced six lead changes.
Wake’s biggest margin of the period was 17-12 on Hildreth’s three-point play at the 11:03 mark.
The Cats were up 31-27 following Nick Robinson’s three-pointer with 3:35 on the clock.
The Deacons took the lead for good at 38-36 on Williams’ layup with seven seconds to play in the half.
Wake shot 51.7 percent from the floor, including 56.7 percent in the second half. WCU made 45.6 percent of its field goal tries.
Williams’ eight rebounds helped the Deacons to a 37-33 advantage on the boards. Robinson had 10 rebounds for Western.
Wake committed 12 turnovers, and the Cats had six.
Completing the WCU scoring were Robinson and Cameron Bacote with nine apiece, Marlow Gilmore with six, Joe Petrakis with three, and Marcus Banks and Madison Monroe both with two.
