Matthew Koehler was four of four at the plate, including a home run, leading Western Carolina to a 9-6 non-conference baseball victory over Eastern Kentucky on May 14 at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.

Daylan Nanny had two hits, including a homer, for the Catamounts, and Luke Robinson also had two hits.

Jack Snyder (2-2), pitched an inning and two-thirds of relief for the win. Jacob Corn picked up his third save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Koehler led off the bottom of the first with a homer. Andrew Bullock drove in a run with an infield out for a 2-0 lead.

Western scored four times in the second to go up 6-0. Koehler had an RBI single. The other runs came in on an error, a wild pitch and a passed ball.

The Colonels cut the gap to 6-2 in the fourth on Logan Thomason’s two-run homer.

Nanny answered with a two-run shot in the bottom of the frame putting the Cats up 8-2.

EKU narrowed the deficit to 8-5 in the fifth on A.J. Lewis’ two-run homer and Michael Brewer’s RBI single.

Lewis’ run-scoring double made it 8-6 in the sixth.

WCU’s final run came on an error in the bottom of the sixth.

Nick Howie had three hits to pace the offense for the Colonels. Lewis and Thomason both had two hits.

Logan Teague started for EKU and took the loss.
