A trio of former Western Carolina football players are part of NFL training camps.

Defensive back Keion Crossen is back with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. Running back Detrez Newsome returns with the Los Angeles Chargers, and rookie punter Ian Berryman is with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Crossen made the roster with the Patriots out of training camp a year ago and became the fifth former Catamount to play in the Super Bowl. He played in 11 games with 14 solo tackles for New England.

Newsome was signed by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in late April 2018 and made the roster after his showing in camp and preseason games. He played in nine games with 11 carries for 49 yards. He also caught two passes for 19 yards and was credited with three tackles, including two solo stops.

Berryman is attempting to make the Steelers after averaging a school career record of 43.8 yards per punt.
