WCU men are second in league track meet

Jasmine Greene was named the league freshman of the year.

Western’s Riley Center won the men’s shot put with a throw of 14.5 meters.

John Davis earned the title in the men’s 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:54.76.

The women’s 1,600 relay team of Imani Boyd, Brianna Gayle, Nytrinitey Jenkins and Shaneil Lysight posted a winning time of 3:46.25.

Greene took the women’s triple jump with a personal best mark of 12.11 meters.

Jenkins won the women’s 400 dash with a personal best time of 55.11.

Samford swept the men’s and women’s team titles for the third straight year.

The Bulldog men won with 251 points to WCU’s 133. Virginia Military was third with 97, followed by East Tennessee (91), Citadel (78), Furman (70), Wofford (65) and UNC-Greensboro (21).

Samford’s women had 220 points to Wofford’s 134. WCU was third at 107.5, followed by ETSU (104.5), Furman (70), Citadel (65), VMI (39), Mercer and UT-Chattanooga (31) and UNC-G (7).

The twin brother combo of Javell and Javon Brown will represent Western in the triple jump at the NCAA East  Preliminaries, which open Friday at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Javell (15.34 meters) and Javon Brown (15.25 meters) posted qualifying marks in the conference meet as they placed second and third, respectively.
