Preseason awards ahead of the 2019 football season started for Western Carolina University as redshirt senior quarterback Tyrie Adams was named to the second team preseason NCAA FCS All-America team released by HERO Sports.

Adams was among eight players from the Southern Conference recognized.

Adams returns for an encore season after orchestrating one of the top individual years in not only WCU football history, but among the tops in the NCAA FCS. He amassed a school-record 3,423 yards of total offense last season and accounted for 26 touchdowns in 2018 – 16 passing and 10 rushing. Adams became one of just 11 NCAA FCS football players all-time to eclipse both the 2,000-yard passing and 1,000-yard rushing mark in the same season.

Over his first three seasons, Adams has earned 9,389 yards of total offense including 7,279 yards passing – second all-time at WCU – and 2,110 rushing yards, 11th in school history. He has already thrown a program-record 53 career passing touchdowns through three seasons – ninth in the SoCon record books – and has tallied 13 career rushing scores.
