West Henderson remained undefeated in the Mountain Seven Conference with a 5-0 soccer victory over Smoky Mountain on April 27 at West.
Marianne Maxon scored three goals for the Lady Falcons, and Emma Chavez had two goals and an assist.
“We battled for 80 minutes,” Coach Stephen Parsons said. “They have the best attacking duo in Western North Carolina. They had a lot of shots, but many of them were outside the 18 on bad angles. I’m proud of how hard everyone worked. We were able to frustrate them at times.”
Maxon opened the scoring midway through the first half with an assist from Chavez.
“She made a good run off the ball,” Parsons said. “They squeezed a through ball to her, and she finished it.”
Maxon and Chavez scored unassisted goals late in the half giving West a 3-0 lead at intermission.
Chavez made it 4-0 with an assist from Olivia Payne in the 47th minute, and Maxon concluded the scoring in the 51st minute.
West dominated play with a 23-4 advantage in shots. Greenlee Flynn made 14 saves, including stopping a penalty kick for the Lady Mustangs (7-8-3, 2-5-2). Taylor Williams had two saves for the Lady Falcons.
