Smoky Mountain’s women’s basketball team will scrimmage Cherokee at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the SM gym.

The varsity and JV squads will alternate segments.

“They are going to have shooters and run with the ball,” Coach Ollin Dunford said of Cherokee. “The biggest thing for us is conditioning.”

The scrimmage will give Dunford a chance to work on areas that need improving after the first scrimmage against Rabun Gap, Georgia. That game was set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the SM gym. In a late change, it was to be varsity only.

“It’s all about evaluating everything at this time and going from there,” Dunford said.

When asked how practice is going, he said, “So far, so good. I’m feeling confident about what we can do.”

The only men’s scrimmage is planned for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at home against Roberson. Members of the football team came out for basketball this week.

The season for both teams is to open Nov. 23 at Swain. That’s subject to change depending on Swain’s advancement in the state 1-A football playoffs.
