Smoky Mountain’s baseball team will play at 12th-seeded North Surry in the second round of the state 2-A playoffs.

The game is tentatively set for 7 p.m. Friday. There is a 50 percent chance of rain Friday night in the Mount Airy area, so the game could be moved to today (Thursday).

The 28th-seeded Mustangs (12-9) upset fifth-seeded Mount Pleasant 8-3 on the road Tuesday. Jacob Frizzell was the winning pitcher, and Emmitt Baldwin had two hits.

The Greyhounds (18-7) blanked West Davidson 2-0 in the opening round.

If the Mustangs reach the third round on Tuesday, they would be at fourth-seeded Franklin or 13th-seeded West Lincoln.

The softball and women’s soccer teams lost in the first round on the road Tuesday.

West Wilkes scored three runs in the fifth to win the softball game 3-2.

Owen rolled to an 8-2 win in soccer. Anna Morgan and Melanie Hoyle scored for the Lady Mustangs.
