Smoky Mountain’s men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished third among four squads competing in the Black Bear Bolt hosted by Pisgah last Thursday.
Tyler Watterson led the Mustang men as he was fourth in 18:25. Completing SM’s top five were:
Ben Saunooke, 10th, 19:20; Parker Smith, 13th 19:56; Henry Hanks, 15th, 20:22; and Sam Conlin, 17th, 21:12.
Brendan Millsaps had a personal-best time of 23:59. Saunooke’s time was his best this season.
Franklin won the meet, followed by Pisgah, SM and Tuscola. Team scores were nor available.
Lily Buenting led the Lady Mustangs as she was fifth with a personal-best time of. 22:09. Rounding out SM’s top five were:
Anna Morgan, seventh, 23:07; Lydia Norman, 16th, 25:37 (personal best); Emma Jutte, 18th, 26:14; and Maia Wilde, 19th, 26:46.
Hadley Huffman (27:44) and Carisa Tilley (30:12) also had personal-best times.
“Anytime we have the heart we had and they run personal-best times, that’s doing very good.,” Shuler said. “We had some major improvements with some of our kids.”
Tuscola won the women’s meet followed by Franklin, SM and Pisgah. Team scores were not available.
