Playing for the first time in 11 days following spring break, Smoky Mountain’s soccer team claimed a 4-0 Mountain Seven Conference victory April 18 at East Henderson.

The Lady Mustangs scored three times in the second half to pull away.

“We had a long layoff from spring break,” Coach Stephen Parsons said. “Although we didn’t start scoring more until the second half, we felt we were in control of the game. Things started clicking in the second half. It was a good win.”

The only goal of the first half was a penalty kick by Addison Cowan after a foul in the box in the 13th minute.

The Lady Eagles mishandled a goal kick in the 52nd minute, and Jada Cortes took advantage to score from 20 yards out for a 2-0 lead.

Gracie Ensley scored on a rebound shot off the post making it 3-0 in the 61st minute.

Lily Buenting concluded the scoring when she connected from 6 yards out with an assist from Gabby Rosas in the 65th minute.

The Lady Mustangs had a 13-5 advantage in shots. East’s Molly Moore had four saves. SM’s Greenlee Flynn made two saves. Vivian Bell finished in goal and had one.
