Smoky Mountain’s 2021-22 athletic season wrapped up Friday with Sawyer Snider competing in the 400-meter dash at the State 3-A Track Meet at N.C. A&T in Greensboro.

Snider placed 14th with a time of 52.71.

“It wasn’t his best time,” Coach Todd Davidson said. “He was put in a tough lane.”

He had finished second the previous week at the 3-A West Regionals in 50.78.

“I think he got a little discouraged being in the first lane, but he has two more years to learn and keep improving,” Davidson said. “It was really good experience for him. It was good that he was able to get to that level of competition. I’m looking forward to the future. He’s only a sophomore.”

The temperature in the Triad reached the mid 90s.

“It was really hot,” Davidson said. “That’s for sure. That played a part too.”
