Franklin made quick work of Smoky Mountain with a 25-9, 25-11, 25-13 Mountain Six Conference volleyball victory Sept. 25 at the SM gym.
“We just didn’t show up to play,” Coach Megan Dezarn said. “Our heart wasn’t in it all the way around. We struggled on multiple levels and in ways that we have not been in the past few matches.”
The Lady Panthers scored the first three points of the match and finished the first set on a 15-1 run.
They took a 6-1 lead with four straight points in the second set, then finished it on a 12-1 spurt.
Franklin scored seven unanswered points to lead 12-3 in the third set. They built the margin to 21-6 with five consecutive points.
Kennedy Stewman led the Lady Mustangs in service points with four. Natalie Parris (five), Alena Anderson (four) and Ella Gamble (three) all did not miss serves. Team serving was 85.3 percent.
Franklin won the JV match 25-18, 25-9.
“We played an undefeated Franklin team,” Coach Melissa Hill said. “We did not play our game. We did not step up to the level of competition. Our girls defeated themselves with talk beforehand about Franklin’s record and how it would not be broken.”
