Dustin Stephens compiled 261 yards of total offense Friday leading Smoky Mountain to a 42-0 Mountain Six Conference football victory at East Henderson.

Stephens carried 13 times for 180 yards and two touchdowns. He caught two passes for 81 yards and a TD.

Will Frady rushed for 69 yards and a score in 18 attempts.

Caleb Lominac completed four of seven passes for 122 yards and two TDs.

Both of Darien Bird’s receptions, which totaled 41 yards, were for TDs.

The Mustangs (6-3, 3-1) limited East to 49 yards of total offense, including minus 4 yards in the second half.

The Eagles were forced to go with Tanner Allison, their third team quarterback, because of injuries to their top two signal callers. He completed just one pass for 11 yards and had minus 7 yards rushing.

Caleb Green, who carried three times for 20 yards on East’s first four plays, suffered a leg injury at that point and did not return.

Stephens gained 36 yards on the game’s first scrimmage play, setting the tone for a 60-yard drive in six plays. He added a 10-yard run and scored from 13 yards out to overcome a penalty. Hunter Pressley kicked the first of his six extra points for a 7-0 lead with 8:18 to play in the first quarter.

Ethan Levi fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Bird recovered at the Eagle 43. Losses on the first two plays totaling 13 yards forced SM to punt.

The Mustangs got the ball back at their 47 after a punt. Aided by a pass interference penalty, they scored in five plays. Frady had a 14-yard run before Lominac hit Bird on a 9-yard TD pass for a 14-0 margin with 11:54 to go in the half.

Three plays after a punt, Lominac completed a pass in the flat to Stephens, who turned it into a 74-yard TD upping the lead to 21-0 at the 5:30 mark.

The Mustangs needed seven plays to move 85 yards on their first possession of the second half. Stephens raced the final 63 yards. He started up the middle then veered to the left for a 28-0 lead with 5:53 remaining in the third period.

A 45-yard run around the left side by Stephens along with a 15-yard penalty keyed an 83-yard drive in seven plays following a punt. Frady scored from the 2 making it 35-0 with 11:51 on the clock.

The final TD was a 32-yard pass from Lominac to Bird to overcome a penalty. With the score 42-0 at the 6:23 mark, a running clock was used the rest of the game. Rocky Magestro had a 15-yard run in the drive.

Danner Hill was SM’s leading tackler with seven. Cole James was right behind with six and a half.
