Smoky Mountain’s soccer team ended the regular season with a 1-0 Mountain Seven Conference victory over East Henderson on Oct. 27 at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.

Billy Ramirez scored the only goal of the Senior Night game at the 16:47 mark with an assist from Erick Flores.

“Billy played a nice through ball down the line to Erick, who outran the defender,” Coach Stephen Brown said. “Billy kept sprinting down the field. Erick made a nice cross in, and Billy was able to finish it.”

The Mustangs (13-6-2, 5-5-2) finished tied for third in the MSC.

East had a 16-14 edge in shots, but only three of the Eagles’ shots came from inside the box. Nathan Porter and Carson Seagraves had four and two saves, respectively, for SM. East’s Alberto Martinez had six saves.

“I was proud of the boys rallying together after a tough loss on Monday,” Brown said. “It was a good note to end the regular season on.

“I’m proud of our seniors,” he added. “It’s special when we can get a win on Senior Night. We put 80 minutes together against a team that likes to move the ball around. We were able to limit their chances. We forced them into taking low percentage shots. We’ll take that all day.”

The Mustang JVs won 2-0 to finish the season 11-4-1. Goals were scored by Casey Dixon and Gavin Baer. Baer and Cade Graning had assists.

Mathias Saunooke made one save.

“The team would have liked more goals, but we’re happy with our performance and the conclusion of our season,” Coach Abby Buenting said.
