Smoky Mountain’s Brianna Bryson won the women’s 100 butterfly in Saturday’s Mountain Seven Conference Swim Meet at the Waynesville Recreation Center.
Bryson had a time of 1:10.01.
She placed fourth in the 100 freestyle in 1:04.8.
Coach Scott Carter singled out Bryson and Will Smith for their perform-ances.
Smith was third in the men’s 100 breaststroke in 1:19.61.
Both the men’s and women’s team finished fourth.
“For most of them it was their last meet,” Carter said. “As far as the whole year goes, they did so well. I’m especially proud of the ones who came out for their first year of swimming.”
Bryson is the only SM swimmer who has met automatic qualifying times for the Western 3-A Regionals, which will be held Feb. 3 in Charlotte.
She has done so in the 100 fly, 100 free and 50 free.
Some other swimmers could qualify when the final list becomes available.
“We’re going to keep practicing and hope to get a few more swimmers into the regionals,” Carter said.
Franklin won the men’s meet with 460 points, followed by Tuscola (360), West Henderson (352) and SM (155).
Franklin also took the women’s meet with 497.5 points, followed by West (366.5), Tuscola (180), SM (164) and Pisgah (89).
