In its final non-conference volleyball match of the season, Smoky Mountain won 25-12, 25-23, 25-12 Oct. 4 at Erwin.

Chandler Jerome put down eight kills and had three blocks. Alexa Anderson handed out 12 assists. Kennedy Stewman and Olivia Rice came up with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

“It was a nice win in three sets,” Coach Melissa Hill said. “We had some great serves. Our passing was great on serve receive and on defense. Our setters were able to get the ball in front of our hitters, and we had some great kills. It was a very good team effort all the way around.”

Greenlee Flynn served four points in the first set, with Jerome having a block and Macy Wike a kill, for an 8-1 lead. The Lady Mustangs stayed dominant throughout the set and led 22-10 after Wike’s three points, including an ace, and Jerome’s kill. The winning point came on a side out.

SM led 13-6 in the second set after Anderson served three points to go with Kennedy Stewman’s kill and Bailey Cloer’s block. The Lady Warriors cut the gap to 15-13 with six straight points. The Lady Mustangs pulled out the win on a side out.

The Lady Mustang JVs ended a 10-game losing streak with a 25-22, 25-14 win.

“It was great to finally get a win,” Coach Gabby Nelson said. “Our serve receive was really good. Vivian Bell had some really great passes to Carrie (Sutton), who was able to set it. We got some really nice hits, and we were able to pull out a win.”
