Smoky Mountain defeated East Henderson 6-2 April 30 in Mountain Six Conference baseball action at the SM field.

Emmitt Baldwin, Jacob Frizzell and Dawson Karup all had two hits for the Mustangs.

Grayson Hall (3-3) was the winning pitcher. He went six innings and gave up three walks and four hits to go with seven strikeouts.

“Grayson threw a great game,” Coach Jeremy Ellenburg said. “He’s done well all season. He keeps hitters off balance.

“As a team, we played very good defense,” he added. “Our big inning came with bunts for the second game in a row. We got a couple of bunts down that ended up being hits. When you apply pressure on the defense, things start happening.”

The Eagles scored in the opening inning on Zach Elliott’s RBI double.

SM tied it in the bottom of the first on an error. Baldwin scored after reaching on a base hit and advancing on Dustin Stephens’ sacrifice.

East regained the lead at 2-1 in the fourth on Tanner Allison’s RBI single.

Cody Lominac’s two-run single in the bottom of the fourth gave the Mustangs a 3-2 edge. It came after base hits by Hinson, Frizzell and Jameson Madden had loaded the bases.

They added three runs in the fifth. Singles by Karup, Baldwin and Stephens loaded the bases. Frizzell had an RBI single, before Baldwin stole home. The final run came on Dillard’s squeeze bunt.

“Cody had a big two-out hit,” Ellenburg said. “He’s really stepped it up.”

The Mustangs scored five runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 6-2 deficit and win 7-6. Jake Miller’s three-run double completed the rally.

Brylen Conlin held the Eagles to one run in four and a third innings of relief for the win.

Gavin McCoy was three of three at the plate with a walk.
