Smoky Mountain edged Franklin 143-145 in a golf match last Thursday at Franklin’s Mill Creek Country Club.
“It always feels good to get a team win, and we were able to edge out a Franklin team that is playing extremely well right now,” Coach Jason Melvin said. “I’m very proud of the whole team because everyone is making progress and getting better every day.”
Autumn Burtt and Payton Broom qualified for regionals. They joined teammates Madison Broom and Allison Macke, who had previously qualified.
Burtt was the medalist with a 43, which was her best round of the season.
Macke was second for the Lady Mustangs with a 43. Madison Broom and Payton Broom both shots 51, which was Payton Broom’s best round of the season.
“I’m excited to see this team continue to get better over the next few weeks,” Melvin said. “I think we’ll be ready to contend for another conference title in October and then make a run at regionals. The girls have put themselves in a position to have a great post season this year, and I can’t wait to see how far they go.”
