West Henderson rolled to a 25-14, 25-16, 25-9 Mountain Seven Conference volleyball victory over Smoky Mountain last Thursday at the SM gym.

“We came out very slow and had some issues on serve receive,” Coach Melissa Hill said. “We adjusted in the second rotation and were able to run more of our game until halfway through the second set. Fortunately, it’s a game that we can put behind us, move on, look to the future, and play harder and more consistently.”

The Lady Falcons jumped to leads of 6-0 and 10-1 in the first set. Five straight points made it 21-10, and the set ended on a service error.

The score was close much of the second set and was tied at 10-10. West ended the set on a 7-2 run.

The outcome of the third set was never in doubt after the Lady Falcons scored seven unanswered points to go up 10-3. A 9-0 spurt extended the margin to 23-6.

The Lady Mustangs (3-4, 0-2) had just 11 offensive points in the match. Mariella Sheppard and Olivia Rice were perfect in eight and six serves, respectively. Team serving was 90.5 percent.

The Lady Mustang JVs fell to 2-5 with a 25-13, 26-28, 15-12 loss.

“The JVs played one of their best matches of the season,” Hill said. “They kept the ball in play and had several long rallies. This team continues to improve and grow every day.”
