Smoky Mountain’s Luke Moody and Cameron Lyons qualified for the Western 2-A Golf Regionals with their performance in the Mountain Six Conference Tournament.
The third and final round of the tourney was played April 29 at Hendersonville Country Club.
The regionals were set for Tuesday at Glen Oaks Golf Club in Maiden. Results were not known at the Herald sports deadline.
The Mustangs finished fourth in the league. The top three teams advanced to the regionals. Moody and Lyons qualified by being among the top four golfers not on a qualifying team.
Moody finished 10th with a three-round total of 252. Lyons was 13th at 267.
By placing in the top 10, Moody earned all-conference honors.
“Luke continues to play very consistent and is playing well at the right time,” Coach Zeb Capps said. “Cameron played really well on the final day and secured a spot.”
Hendersonville won the tournament with a three-round total of 980. Pisgah was second at 1,011, followed by Brevard (1,041) SM (1,088), Franklin (1,120) and East Henderson (1,283).
“I would have loved to have had the team qualify, but it’s big to have a couple of kids qualify,” Capps said.
In addition to Moody and Lyons, SM’s top four included Will Cabe, 14th, 277; and Stahle Wyatt, 19th, 296.
Scores from the third round were Hendersonville (325), Pisgah (334), Brevard (356), SM (370), Franklin (380) and East Henderson (429).
SM’s top four individual scorers from the last day were Moody (85), Lyons and Will Cabe (93) and Daniel Cabe (99).
“I’m extremely proud of our guys for battling,” Capps said. “I’m really proud of our seniors. They made my first year very easy It’s a good group of kids. The seniors will be missed.”
