Macon defeated Smoky Mountain 28-8 in a middle school football game last Thursday at Franklin.
“We really shot ourselves in the foot in this game,” Coach Tony Moody said. “We had too many mental errors that they capitalized on. Missed tackles and penalties doomed us. Barring the mistakes, we played four quarters of team football.”
The Panthers scored on their opening drive to take an 8-0 lead and were up 22-0 at halftime.
The Mustangs (0-5) got on the board in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run by Ben Brown. Rylee Smith added the conversion run cutting the gap to 22-8.
Macon scored another touchdown, and SM had a TD nullified by a penalty.
