Athletic Training honored

Western Carolina’s Athletic Training Program received the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s Commissioner’s Choice Award during a ceremony May 2 at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill. It was presented in recognition of the patient care and sports medicine services that have been provided by the program’s students and faculty at state cross country and wrestling tournaments since the program’s inception in 2004. WCU’s athletic training students also serve NCHSAA schools through their clinical education experiences by providing services to middle school and high school athletic teams with prevention, evaluation and rehabilitation. On hand to accept the honor during the NCHSAA’s annual meeting were (from left) students Tiffany Whitt, Katie Sapp and Ke’La Porter; WCU Athletic Training Program Director Melissa Snyder; and student Kortnie Blanchard.
