Western Carolina senior defensive back John Brannon signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday night following the conclusion of the NFL Draft.

Brannon concluded his four-year career in Cullowhee with seven interceptions, including a single-season best three in 2019, tied for the second-most in the Southern Conference. He was among five Catamounts named All-Southern Conference as he was chosen for the second team by both the coaches and media. He had 55 tackles, broke up five passes and recovered two fumbles.

Brannon, who played at South Mecklenburg High in Charlotte, made his first collegiate start as a true freshman but it wasn’t until his senior season that he became a regular and started all 12 games. He finished his career with 90 tackles including 50 solos and four tackles for loss.
