Smoky Mountain’s middle school football team opened its season last Thursday with a 26-0 win at Apple Valley.

“We played lights out on defense,” Coach Tony Moody said. “We swarmed to the ball and stopped their potent spread throwing attack. They did not pick up a first down until late in the fourth quarter. We controlled the ball on the offensive side, and dominated them defensively. The kids had a great game.”

The defense opened the scoring when Conner Moore had a tackle in the end zone for a safety.

A 21-yard run by Isaiah McNeely set up Joe Bryant Hill’s 2-yard touchdown run. McNeely added the two-point conversion for a 10-0 halftime lead.

Gage Davis had a 3-yard TD run that was set up by a fumble. He also returned an interception 45 yards for a score. McNeely and Jarin Stillwell had conversion runs.
