Daniel Ferguson (left) and Brendan Ferguson won silver medals at the U.S. Judo Association Junior Nationals held July 13-15 at Charlotte. More than 600 juniors from as far away as Hawaii and Canada took part in the competition. Sensei Jimmy Riggs of the Waynesville Kodokan Club where the boys train was excited about his team's performance. "These competitors represent the best of the best," he said. "They come hundreds, sometimes thousands of miles to compete in national events. Our club was able to place in this event and be counted among the best." Daniel and Brendan are the sons of Gordon and Sharon Ferguson. They are students at Fairview School. Brendan, a rising eighth-grader, competed in the 13-14-year-old division. Daniel, a rising fifth-grader, competed in the 9-10 division. |
