Heather Adams pitched a strong game for Smoky Mountain in last week's game at Hayesville. However, the Lady Jackets rallied in the seventh inning for a 6-5 victory. The Lady Mustangs bounced back the next day to defeat Murphy for their first win of the season.

Smoky Mountain held off Murphy for a 9-8 softball victory Friday at Webster.

The Lady Mustangs (1-2) led 7-0 through three innings and 9-4 through four.

"It was nice to hold on for the win," Coach Melissa Hill said.

Amanda Magruder led off the bottom of the first with a single and scored SM's first run on a wild pitch.

The Lady Mustangs mainly took advantage of walks and errors to score five runs in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth.

The Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Amber Stephens pitched into the fourth inning before being relieved by Magruder. Heather Adams finished with two scoreless innings for the win.

"The girls showed some determination," Hill said. "Even though Murphy was on a role, Heather came in and held them to no runs."

Magruder had two hits in four at-bats. Megan Rhinehart had a triple.
