Asheville pounded out 15 hits and was aided by five Smoky Mountain errors in a 16-4 softball romp Monday at Webster.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

The Lady Cougars jumped in front 8-0 in the first with five hits, an error and two walks. They added two runs in the third for a 10-0 lead.

"We let them take the lead early, and they took control of the game," Coach Melissa Hill said. "We just followed along."

The Lady Mustangs (2-10) got on the board in the bottom of the third on a two-run double by Katie Crisp. The hit drove in Amanda Magruder and Megan Rhinehart, who had drawn walks.

Timara Barker scored on a wild pitch in the fourth cutting the gap to 10-3.

Asheville put the game away with six runs in the fifth.
SM scored in the bottom of the fifth as Crisp's RBI single plated Rhinehart, who had walked. Crisp had two hits in three at-bats.

"Katie had some good hits," Hill said. "She also made a nice play at second base."
