Smoky Mountain's golfers returned from spring break to compete in a match Monday at High Hampton.

Brevard shot a school record 286 to come out on top. Franklin was second at 297 followed by Erwin (321) and SM (328).

Coach Stacy Buchanan said he gave his top two golfers, Tighe Hooper and Zeke Cooper, the day off.

"I was giving everyone a chance to get some matches under their belts, and I was resting my top two golfers as we get ready to make a run at the conference tournament and regionals," he said.

A.J. Rowell had the top score for the Mustangs with a 79. Dan White and Adam Holt both fired 81s while Ethan Mechling had an 87.

On March 30, Franklin finished ahead of SM at High Hampton 296-307. Hooper led the Mustangs and was third overall at 74. Completing SM's top four were Rowell (77) and Cooper and Jonathan Collins (78).

"All six golfers posted scores in the 70s for the first time in school history," Buchanan said. He expressed his appreciation to High Hampton for allowing the high schools to use such a beautiful course.
