In response to “NC Schools Sliding Toward Resegregation,” Jan. 3 Opinion: I was interested in Nickole Hannah-Jones’ quote that “We lost the moral message of public schools: they are about the common, not an individual’s good.” This is a deceptive statement.

A given entity either is good, or it is not good. Period. Yes, vouchers and charter schools are making our public schools even better. Exactly how? They offer more curriculum selection options to more students. This may not solve all problems, but it will help give more students more opportunities to become more able to be well equipped to offer genuine skills and competence to the workforce, to science, to social education in the whole to find answers to our many human needs.
