To the Editor:

We’re sad to announce our 17th annual Mountain Wildlife Days scheduled for July 17-18 has become another casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic. We deeply regret having to cancel this year’s event, but realize it just couldn’t be done without risking the health of our great audiences, presenters, supporting volunteers and silent auction contributors.

As you may know, proceeds from this popular annual event are used to support Mountain Wildlife Outreach educational programs for Western Carolina schools and other organizations.

In a sense, we are fortunate, because of the abbreviated spring school semester, to have sufficient funding to continue these programs into the 2020-21 school year. Hopefully, schools will open again this fall, allowing this program to resume its mission of providing funding for wildlife education.

Be on the lookout next spring for information on our 2021 Mountain Wildlife Days, currently scheduled for July 16-17, when we will once again bring you “up close and personal with wild things and wild places.”

MWD Director
