To the Editor:

Some people are objecting to wearing a mask as now mandated by Gov. Roy Cooper. Recently I sat in the parking lot at Walmart and observed that only about 50 percent of the customers entering the store were wearing masks, and not only the young. No wonder cases are going up in Jackson County.

Telling people to wear masks in not that great a deal, but is a great deal in trying to contain the virus, to protect others and so the economy can recover.

Think about the store employees, nurses and others who wear a mask for several hours a day whereas you are only asked to wear one for a limited amount of time.

We should all be grateful to Gov. Cooper for doing all he has done to keep the number of cases and deaths down in North Carolina.
