Boost for bikers
In an ongoing effort to reduce bicycle injuries and deaths, nearly 20,000 children across the state, including in Jackson County, will be receiving lifesaving bicycle helmets through the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Bicycle Helmet Initiative.
Among local organizations receiving helmets are the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department, Jackson County Public Schools and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation uses funds from the sale of “Share the Road” specialty license plates to purchase bike helmets that are distributed at local safety events for underprivileged children by government and non-government agencies.
