Kudos for the recent passage of the Great American Outdoors Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump. The Act creates a Restoration Fund to address deferred maintenance of national parks and forests. The Restoration Fund will make available $9.5 billion over five years, including $6 billion slated for national parks and $1.4 billion slated for national forests.
The Act will help address chronic underfunding, which has resulted in more than $508 million in backlogged repair needs on the Parkway. Repairs will include work on roads, bridges, picnic areas and campgrounds.
