Congratulations to Meals on Wheels, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the legislation that led to the program. Eddie Wells, Department on Aging director for Jackson, says MOW does around 35,000 meals a year, in addition to 15,000-17,000 at the Department’s two dine-in sites.
MOW provides not just nutrition but vital social interaction for the homebound as well. The program also provides food for companion animals for the elderly. Jackson commissioners recently offered the program much-deserved recognition. To volunteer or to register for meal programs call the Department on Aging at 586-5494 or apply in person at the department at 100 County Services Park.
