Joseph Lamar Beasley, 83, of Reston, Va., passed away peacefully at his home Friday, March 27, 2020.
Born Oct. 12, 1936, in Sylva, N.C, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jannette; son, David (Nicolete); daughter, Karen; granddaughters, Susan and Elizabeth Mazzola, all of Reston, Va.; brother, Jerry (Judy) of Middletown, Ohio; nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Sylva High School, served in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from University of Georgia in 1962 with a degree in forestry. In his forestry career he held many positions in the U.S., one of which was as director of the Southern Forest Research Station in Asheville. His last position was deputy chief in the Washington D.C. office.
After retirement from the U.S. Forest Service, he served as director of the National Forest Foundation. In 1997 he established American Wetlands and Natural Exchange Corporation.
